One Man’s Trash Interviews Squeeze’s Chris Difford

KTSW 89.9 general manager, faculty adviser and host of One Man’s Trash interviewed Squeeze tunesmith Chris Difford on Aug. 29, 2019.

Chris Difford represents one half of the songwriting duo for the band Squeeze, which first found prominence in the late ’70s and early’ 80s with songs like “Tempted” and “Pulling Mussels (From the Shell).” Difford met songwriting partner Glenn Tilbrook in 1973 after posting an ad for a guitar player for his band in the window of a bakery in his hometown of Greenwich, England, to which there was only one reply—from Tilbrook.

Two breakups/reunions, 15 studio and four live albums, one extended play and 48 singles later, the songwriting duo that Rolling Stone magazine dubbed “the Lennon and McCartney of their generation” is touring the United States on their “Difford and Tilbrook Songbook Tour,” which makes a stop at The Paramount Theatre in Austin, Texas, on Sept. 17 with special guest X.
