03/25/20: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

SAN MARCOS – Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra is announcing a “stay in place” order for county residents today to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
The order is expected to have an 11 p.m. curfew. Hays County reported two new cases of the COVID-19 virus yesterday, bringing the total number of cases in the county to nine.
“We don’t have a choice,” Becerra said in a message sent to residents. “More than half of our cases have been confirmed (as) community spread.”
Hays County is also closing all county parks until further notice. This includes Five Mile Dam Parks, Jacob’s Well Natural Area and the Gay Ruby Dahlstrom Nature Preserve.
The announcement follows yesterday’s announcement that the city is closing all of its riverfront parks. Texas State University also closed Sewell park until further notice.
