I started watching “American Idol” when I was around 10 years old. The first season I watched from the beginning to the end was season 10, the season with “American Idol” contestants Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina and Haley Reinhart.
Throughout the entire season, I imagined these three in the top three positions and hoped that Scotty McCreery would win, because at the time, I lived in North Carolina and Scotty was from Garner, North Carolina and his voice was amazing.
I remember being a major fangirl going to his hometown and having my mom drive me through the area seeing the community where he lived. Then, I went to a fundraising concert event and saw him standing only a few feet away from me, I was on cloud nine.
Now, we are on “American Idol” season 19 and this is its fourth season since “American Idol” was resurrected from being canceled several years ago.
Since we are quickly approaching the top three contestants, let’s talk about who I hope will make it to the top three.
From the top 12 contestants, here are my choices:
Cassandra Coleman
Cassandra is a unique person and voice this season. Her audition reminded me of season 10 when the judges had Scotty McCreery perform two audition songs because they were intrigued by his voice.
Cassandra’s voice is uncategorizable, except she seems to fall into an indie-folk genre.
I hope she makes it to the top three because she seems like a natural talent whose voice could shake the music industry and cause a rise in unique voices being discovered.
Ava August
Ava is the youngest contestant on “American Idol.” She is 15 years old, but she sings like someone with an old soul. Throughout the competition, I knew she had a great voice, but only recently did I realize just how unique it was.
Her performance with Josh Groban gave me the chills and I think when someone gives you the chills it is noteworthy. Her personality has been shining through the competition and she has been herself through and through. I hope she continues pushing herself throughout the rest of the competition.
Willie Spence
Willie is a diamond. Since his audition, where he performed “Diamonds” by Rhianna you could tell he had talent that would take him far into the competition and beyond.
He has said throughout his journey that he does this for his family and has dedicated a song to his grandfather and has shown just how much love he has in him for his family.
His voice is soulful for someone who is only 21 years old. Since his audition, he has grown into an even stronger vocalist and his recent performance of “Diamonds” had me singing along and dancing. Willie is a strong contender for the top three in my eyes, even for first place.
With so much talent this season, I wanted to include more. Especially some of those who have been eliminated from the competition including Philip Murphy, Althea Grace and Colin Jamieson.
Unfortunately, I was unable to include one of my other favorite contestants, Wyatt Pike, because he dropped out of the competition due to personal reasons. He sang beautifully and I wish he had more time on the show, but I look forward to hearing his music outside of “American Idol.”
Who is your ideal top three contestants for “American Idol” this season? Anyone, that you wish could have stayed a long time?
This week we are seeing some familiar faces from last season who will be competing to enter this year’s top ten. I am looking forward to seeing and hearing their growth over the past year.
