Texas State University is opening applications on Jan. 18 for students enrolled in the spring 2022 semester to apply for Bobcat Cares COVID-19 Relief Funding.
The university is distributing $6.5 million through the federal Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) to eligible students who are dealing with financial insecurity caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, this federally funded assistance is not guaranteed to all eligible students. Students who have not received Bobcat Cares Emergency Grant in the previous years and those who demonstrate exceptional financial need based on 2021-2022 FAFSA will be prioritized.
The availability of funds has hugely decreased this semester as Texas State had announced $40 million for fall 2021 semester as compared to $6.5 million in spring 2022.
The application period is from Jan. 18 to Feb. 1, 2022. All applicants will receive an email within two weeks of the application closing, notifying them on whether they will receive the grant.
Eligible students can receive emergency funds to cover any component of cost of attendance, including tuition, food, housing, supplies and transportation. The funds can also be used to make up for any emergency costs incurred due to coronavirus, such as healthcare, mental healthcare and childcare.
The awarded relief funds could be first applied to the outstanding charges on the student account. Any remaining funds will be sent to the student either by E-refunds or paper mail check.
To apply for this grant, students must submit the Bobcat Cares Emergency Grant Program application through Bobcat Online Scholarship System (BOSS).
