Black Student-Athlete Alliance (BSAA) is an organization with a mission to unite black student
athletes at Texas State and offer an environment to network and connect with one another. The
organization was recently founded at the start of the 2023 school year.
BSAA hosts monthly meetings consisting of learning from members’ experiences and providing
a space for members to feel included and accepted. Additionally, they will have professionals
come in to offer their perspective on how to navigate life as a future black professional.
Organization Founder Lauryn Thompson saw a need to create a comforting space for black
student athletes at Texas State, and she organized BSAA to amplify athletes’ voices, bridge the
gaps between teams, as well as allow the change for student athletes to connect with one
another.
“BSAA is an organization welcome for all types of people. If you ever felt/feel like an outsider or
‘you don’t fit,’ BSAA is the space you should be in. As the group is focused on black student
athletes, we are here to promote the need of allies as a black community, so if you are
comfortable in spaces like such, we would love for you to be a part of BSAA!” –Lauryn
Thompson, Founder of Black Student-Athlete Alliance.
