Her Campus is a nationally run online magazine with over 700 chapters. Their mission is to “fill a
huge hole in the media market: an online magazine dedicated to, written by, and focused on
empowering, college women” (HerCampus).
Texas State University is lucky enough to have a chapter of its own led by President Leia
Mendoza. Leia was able to bring Her Campus to Texas State in November 2022 after a number
of interviews and tests through the company. She has since led her team to publish articles
covering topics such as self love, SXSW, and healthy eating.
The Texas State chapter is designed to help people who are interested in working in journalism,
public relations, event planning, and social media. With a wide variety of teams to join, Her
Campus enables students to learn and gain experience in an array of trades to prepare them for
their professional careers. While publications aren’t limited to only members of the writing team,
writers are able to cover topics such as fashion, style and beauty trends, entertainment, pop
culture, mental health, Texas State life, and events happening in San Marcos and Austin.
Writers also get the opportunity for their work to be exposed to a nationally published website:
Her Campus Magazine.
As of now, meetings are divided by teams over zoom. However, in person meetings will be
starting soon on Tuesdays at 6pm.
“It doesn’t matter if you’re not skilled in it but if you’re willing to learn event planning, social
media, writing, or even learning how to post then totally give it a chance because we’re just
figuring it out too. If it’s something you’re interested in then we’d love to have you on board!” –
Leia Mendoza, President of Her Campus.
Make sure to check out the Her Campus at TX State website and catch Her Campus on the
quad promoting their organization and passing out free samples!
