Ready. Set. Go! The new semester has officially begun! With it comes the opportunity to join over 300 registered student organizations, campus-wide events and leadership/development programs all brought to you by the TXST Student Involvement and Engagement team.
Located on the fourth floor of the LBJ Student Center, TXST Involvement provides direction to students interested in joining student government, fraternity/sorority life, volunteer opportunities and even help with scholarships. Directly to the right of the elevators, you will find a desk occupied by students and staff members all with TXST Involvement ready to aid in finding the place where you belong.
The organization’s goal is even more apparent during the first two weeks of class, which is dubbed “Bobcats Back,” when several clubs have tents set up all around campus ready to hand out fun freebies, snacks and most importantly information on recruitment. Don’t be afraid to reach out to them and try something new. That’s what college is all about!
“All of our activities are geared toward TXST students and faculty,” said Evan Bookman, coordinator for Community Engagement Programs. “We host a variety of events to create a sense of acceptance and engagement to students who may be unsure about where they belong.”
However, TXST Involvement doesn’t just stop working once the first two weeks come to a conclusion. In fact, there is already a long list of calendar events being planned for the upcoming semester, one of the most anticipated being Homecoming Week.
Some of the signature events that you can look forward to during that week will include the annual talent show “Texas State’s Got Talent,” the Soapbox Derby, the Spirit Parade through campus and most famously, Boko’s Homecoming Bash. These events are aimed at bringing students together to celebrate their pride at school.
Other notable events to look forward to this fall include Tunes@Noon, which will be a live music event in the LBJ Student Center Amphitheater on Oct. 10. Another event to mark on your calendars is the annual Market Day held in the quad on Nov. 20. If you would like a weekly event to attend, then you should check out Thursday Movie Nights brought to you by the Student Government and university police department in the Pecan Building.
“To get involved with something means to gain a greater sense of what it is to be a Bobcat,” said Dr. Duane S. Bruce, assistant vice president and executive director for Student Success, “These will be the things that will contribute to your success here at Texas State University.”
Bookman and Bruce both note that if students are ever interested in becoming a part of TXST Involvement, then they should visit the Student Involvement and Engagement Instagram page to learn what they can do to be a part of the team. You can also visit Student Involvement and Engagement to find the full calendar of events this semester.
