Drag shows: 4WAY at The Porch

The premiere of a new monthly drag show, 4WAY, took place at The Porch on Sept. 8. The show was hosted by frequent KTSW collaborator and local Drag Queen, Cedrena Fierce, and had performances by Miz Zgi Zgi, Jupiter, Yvonna F.Mei and Shitonya Face.

The Porch was packed and the audience for the show was diverse, all sorts of San Marcos locals came out to support the debut of the newest drag show. Fierce started the show off with a performance of Doja Cat’s single “Paint The Town Red”.

Audience engagement throughout the show was high and unwavering, especially during a section halfway through the show when Miz Zgi Zgi and Yvonna F.Mei hosted a competition that involved bringing up four audience members to perform Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies”. The winner of the competition was decided by the audience who did not hesitate to cheer for their favorites whenever Miz Zgi Zgi or Yvonna F.Mei asked if one of the performers should make it to the next round.

The show ended with Fierce bringing out all the performers on stage to sing along to “Beautiful” by Christina Aguilera. The whole place was singing along, shining and swaying their phone’s lights as if they were lighters at a festival and roared with cheers and applause when the show’s finale came to a close. As soon as the song was over, a huge line was formed to take pictures and chat with the five queens who performed.

For Shitonya Face, the 4WAY show was one of her first public performances.

“I had my debut on Tuesday,” said Face. “I won this little lip sync battle and then Cedrena was like ‘Do you want to do a real gig on Friday?’ and I said, ‘Absolutely, I would love to.’ I’m so happy with what I went with. My drag mom, Cedrena Fierce, did so good putting this all together. I’m such a proud daughter and I love getting to see my aunties Yvonna, Jupiter and Zgi Zgi. Happy pride, protect trans rights and come out and support your local queers.”

Miz Zgi Zgi, another frequent KTSW collaborator, shared her thoughts on future plans for 4WAY and how San Marcos celebrates Pride.

“The cast of 4WAY is me, Cedrena, Jupiter and Yvonna,” said Miz Zgi Zgi. “Then we’re going to have special guests each time. We’re going to be the first show in San Marcos to have a rotating guest so we’re really excited to see how that turns out.”

“I’m actually native to Austin, but something special I’ve noticed about San Marcos is its sense of community here,” said Miz Zgi Zgi. “It’s all walks of life as far the community, as far as gay, lesbian, trans, queer in general. So I think the scene and community out here has been really inspiring.”
