The spookiest day of the year is quickly approaching, and with it comes a multitude of spine-chilling activities to get fun started. On Oct. 30, the Exercise and Sports Science Graduate Student Organization will be hosting their Halloween Bash and Monster Dash. The 5k race will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be held at the Intramural fields across from campus where Charles Austin and Aquarena meet.

Throughout the trail, runners should watch out for any mysterious monsters ready to jump out of the shadows to scare them. Once the race is complete, participants can head over to the Vendors Village and fill up on yummy treats from local businesses and organizations.

On the same day, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., the Campus Recreation team will throw their own Halloween party at the Student Recreation Center. The event, Haunted Heights, will be open for all students, undergraduate and graduate.

Those who attend are encouraged to wear their creepiest costumes and participate in events for a chance to win prizes that are sure to fill Halloween buckets.

Texas State University is not the only place where San Martians can find events to get them in the spirits this week.

On Halloween day, for the first time, San Marcos local public agencies will be hosting Trunk-or-Treat. The event will kick off at 6 p.m. and will be held at the San Marcos Police Department, 2300 IH 35.

In addition to getting to see their first responders in costumes, participants will be able to trick-or-treat for candy, get their faces painted, hang out in firetrucks and police cars and even interact with police canines.

If party goers are still looking for something to do after Trunk-or-Treat, then they need look no further. On the same night, the Trivia Tuesday x Taproom Halloween Party will be happening from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Once the event has begun, prizes for best costume and best team costume will be announced followed by all kinds of scary, spooky trivia.

No matter what you do to celebrate Halloween, remember to have a howling good time!
