As love fills the air, flowers fill vases, and the chilly weather requires warm hugs, all lovebirds and singles alike feel Valentine’s Day’s quick approach. Whether you wish to shower your lover affectionately with a custom playlist or smell the roses of your own accord, our local Texas bands have you covered. Here are five songs that can help you feel the “love, love, love,” thoroughly listened to by yours truly and tailored to your Valentine’s or Galentine’s celebrations.
Watch out San Marcos, I think you just found your new favorite indie band! This tune is curated for the indie rock romantics who love a little twirl in the kitchen. An angelic combination of electric instrumentality, drums and Conner Redden’s voice will make you fall in “love, love, love” with this Valentine’s season. As a regular Flight by Nothing concertgoer, I can say that it is impossible to refrain from swaying throughout their performances. The Austin-based boy band creates music that entrances the crowd during every show. Not only does their engagement with the attendees heighten the experience, but it brings people closer together.
As a fresh band in the local music scene, EddieAngel brings groove and soul to venues in the Austin area. The artists came together in January 2023, crushing their first group performance at the Electric Church. Get ready to walk the stairways to heaven while listening to this song. For the singles seeking empowerment during this season, one of their recent releases “U & I” is a can’t-miss melody. Singer/songwriter Angel Estrada brings original lyrics and powerful vocals throughout each song. If that is not enough, the combination of James Navarro on drums, Jacob Masson on guitar, Enrico De Cesare Leite on bass and Sophia Brinkman on keys creates a memorable music experience for all who listen.
Inspired by “hope, freedom, and expression,” Vortxz’s sounds feel like hanging out of a car window during a sunny day. The indie rock band from Houston, Texas took their first stage in January 2022 and continues to expand throughout central Texas. “My Love” puts romance at center stage, mixing heartfelt lyrics with an upbeat tone and emphasizing the warm atmosphere of a lover’s presence.
Daydream Twins’ captivating sound will surely set the perfect tone for a romantic Valentine’s evening. The Austin-based shoegaze band has flourished in popularity over social media platforms since its creation in 2020, gaining over seventy thousand monthly listeners on Spotify. Whether you are looking to stargaze or dance under the moonlight with your lover, this serenade-like melody will take you on a journey that you thought would only exist in your dreams.
Calling all post-punk enthusiasts! If your lover is the sugar to your tea, Sugar Cube is the perfect addition to your custom playlist. Despite La Femme Solitaire’s disbandment in 2023, their eclectic sound finds itself in my headphones and car speakers regularly. Before departing from the Austin music scene, the band left us with a new EP titled La Finale. With sound like Sneaks and a French flair like Lizzy Mercier Descloux, La Femme Solitaire brought a unique post-punk funk to numerous venues in Austin, Texas. They will be forever missed, yet never forgotten. This song will bring the sweetness of Valentine’s Day to your speakers.
