SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Bobcats achieved another victory at home, making it a three-game win streak in a close game against the Sun Belt-leading Mountaineers with a final score of 63-56.

The last time these two teams played against each other was last season, when Appalachian State took the victory in a close game with a final score of 82-75.

Head Coach Terrence Johnson tells us more about how the game was approached based on last year’s results.

“We had some turnovers down the street for that game, and that kind of made it a little bit more difficult, but we just needed to be solid,” Coach Johnson said. “I thought of a lot of different ways that we can go out there after I watched last year’s game a number of times. I said, Hey, we just gonna be us, we gonna hard hit, we switch, and we do it like this, so it did provide a lot of clarity and confidence.”

Throughout the game, the Bobcats showed a lot of confidence and trust in each other against the number one seed in the Sun Belt Conference.

During the first half, Texas State worked offensively to maintain the lead, having multiple rebounds and blocking multiple shots from the Mountaineers.

In the beginning of the second half, the Mountaineers regained the lead after shooting multiple three-pointers. However, Texas State did not stay behind and quickly regained the lead after scoring seven points in a row.

Davion Sykes explained more about how they stayed focused during a close game and how they achieved keeping the lead.

“It’s been a big thing that coach TJ has said,” Sykes said. “Four minutes at a time, that’s all we play, so knowing if we won the four minutes or lost the four minutes, as we would say, it kind of brings us back to ground zero, so we just play four minutes at a time, which it kind of chops the game down the line for us.”

With this victory, the Texas State Bobcats now have 1,400 wins in program history.
