Lampkins Provides Spark Despite Rattlers Woes Against Lake Travis

AUSTIN TX – The Lake Travis Cavaliers down the San Marcos Rattlers despite Rattler wide receiver Jordan Lampkins’ two-touchdown day. 

 Lampkins had the Rattler’s only two scores of the night after a misdirection play, which saw the sophomore rip off a run with five minutes to go in the second quarter, shaving the Cavalier lead to 27-6. The second score came just after the wide receiver limped off the field with an apparent cramp late in the third quarter. Coach John Walsh spoke on the mental toughness of his star underclassman. 

 “Jordan Lampkins is a special player; he’s as good as there is in the district for a sophomore, you just give him the ball any way you can,” Walsh said. “He never comes off the field; he’s on a kick return, kickoff, defense, our best tackler and plays offense. He is going to be a superstar in San Marcos.” 

Lampkins’ heroics were not enough as the Cavs rattled off 20 unanswered points in the first quarter. Six came off a blocked punt by Cavalier defensive back Ben Soules, who recovered his block for the touchdown. Lampkins provided a spark with a score before the half, but the Cavalier’s defensive line would answer back with continuous pressure the rest of the night. 

The second half was all Cavalier football as Lake Travis scored 35 points in the second half, adding the necessary insurance to ice the Snake Pit out of the game by the beginning of the fourth quarter leading to the Cavs victory and final score of 62-13. Coach Walsh spoke about the point of Thursday’s game was to get better. 

 “Our goal tonight was to battle and get better,” Walsh said. “We used Lake Travis to make us better for Buda. I thought they did exactly what we asked them to do.” 

 San Marcos’s road streak continues as the Rattlers look to bounce back, taking on the Buda Johnson Jaguars on Friday, Sept. 27, at Bob Shelton Stadium.
