SAN MARCOS, Texas — San Marcos Rattler football traveled to San Antonio to face the East Central Hornets at Hornet Stadium. East Central handily-defeated the Rattlers with a score of 50-0.
San Marcos came into this game with a plethora of starters and players not suiting up. The Rattlers now sit at an 0-7 record for the 2024 season following the loss to East Central.
Head Coach John Walsh spoke about the team’s performance in the post-game press conference. “East Central is a good football team, I think they went 50 to 50 something with Steele. We knew we had our hands full with this group,” Walsh said.
According to Walsh, the East Central team contains a lot of explosiveness, and the Rattlers did well making the Hornets fight for points.

“They have a lot of talent on the perimeter, and it showed real quick. I am proud that we made them work for their scores at the end,” said Walsh.
Walsh gave his thoughts on what the team can do to improve heading into their next matchup on the road against the Cornerstone Christian Warriors.
“They have to be ready to come and fight, that’s just it,” said Walsh. “This team has done a good job all year long of fighting in the first half and we are not fighting like we used to, so we need to finish the year and fight hard.”
The Rattlers could not get any offensive momentum against the Hornets which resulted in them only entering the Hornet red zone once throughout the ball game.
East Central took control of this ball game early. After forcing the Rattlers to punt on the opening possession, the Hornet offense scored a pair of long-yardage touchdowns on their first two plays from scrimmage.
With a 36-0 lead at halftime, East Central coasted their offense for the remainder of the game. Despite the slow tempo from the Hornets, they tacked on two touchdowns extending their lead 50-0.
San Marcos could not get any points on the board to avoid the shutout against the Hornets. Deep in Hornet territory, the Rattler offense could not get the ball in the end zone with just a few minutes remaining.
Approaching the end of the season without a win, the Rattlers are now playing to avoid another winless season.
The San Marcos Rattlers will return to San Antonio for their next game to face the Judson Rockets (1-5) on Friday, Oct. 18th.
