SCHERTZ, Tx – The San Marcos Rattlers traveled to Lehnhoff Stadium to take on the Steele Knights for their homecoming game resulting in a painless victory with a final score of 63-0.

It has been a disappointing last couple of outings for the Rattlers versus the Knights. In the 2023-2024 season, they fell heavily to the feet of Steele with a final score of 45-6 and the year before, they were outscored 49-14. The Rattlers knew it was going to be a tough battle coming into this game.

The Rattlers didn’t have the greatest luck from the start of the game, losing the coin toss and subsequently kicking off first.

The Knights scored on the first play of the game by effortlessly blowing past the Rattler defense. Being down seven within the first 30 seconds of the game was the beginning of an all-night uphill battle for the Rattlers.

During the first quarter, the Steele Knights were easily moving the chains down the field to the end zone. They found success with swing passes, which put their running backs in a position to glide down the sideline.

The Rattlers seemed helpless and could not manage to make any effective defensive plays. They gave up four touchdowns that put them down 0-28 by the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter spelled offensive chaos for the Rattlers as they fumbled the ball early in the quarter but were able to recover it and keep the ball alive.

Unfortunately for the Rattlers, every possession ended in a turnover on downs or a punt.

After not being able to get a first-down following another Steele touchdown, the Knights blocked a punt and were stopped at their own five-yard line. After that touchdown, history repeated itself and San Marcos suffered another blocked punt in which Steele took it all the way home.

By the end of the half, the Rattlers were down 0-49. In the second half, San Marcos showed some slight improvement on their defense. A blocked pass made by the Rattlers was tipped and ended up in the hands of San Marcos. They were able to fight to get the ball to their own thirty-yard line.

Regardless of their effort, they could not finish the job and committed yet another turnover. The Knights were only able to score once in the fourth quarter, ending the game with a score of 63-0.

The next game for the Rattlers will be at home for one final showdown against Canyon High School. It will be Senior night for the Rattlers, and it will take place on Nov. 8th at 7:30 pm.
