Bobcats Dominate McMurry

SAN MARCOS– The Texas State Bobcats soared past the McMurry Warhawks in Strahan Arena with a very impressive 102-62 win on Friday night.  

 The game started sloppy for both teams as there were multiple turnovers and fouls in the first 5 minutes of the half. Eventually the Bobcats pulled away from the Warhawks thanks to Sophomore guard Kaden Gumbs 18 first half points shooting 7-11 from the field.  

The Bobcats would end the first half leading the Warhawks 51-23. 

There was a brief pause in the last minutes of the first half after Graduate forward Tyrel Morgan left the game after a hard flagrant foul during a dunk attempt where he landed hard on his back.  

 Before his exit Morgan showed his defensive prowess with 2 blocks and 2 steals along with 5 rebounds. Texas State Head Coach Terrance Johnson spoke with us after to talk about the injury.  

 “We don’t have an update yet he did take a pretty hard fall, but I will be checking up on him whenever I get outta here.” 

 The second half started slow for the Bobcats as the Warhawks offense started to get things going with a number of shots falling in the first 6 minutes.  

 That didn’t last long very though as Graduate Guard Drue Drinnon came alive in the second half scoring 14 points and shooting 4-6 from behind the arc. 

 Drinnon accounted for 21 out of the 53 bench points for the Bobcats after a slow first half. 

 “I’m surrounded by good teammates man, they told me when you get your shot just let it fly,’’ said Drinnon when asked about his second half surge.  

 The Bobcats continued to pile on in the second half and ended the game with the score of 102-62. Sophomore Kaden Gumbs had a masterclass with 26 points, 10 rebounds, and three steals while shooting 11-18 (61%) from the field.  

 Gumbs shared his thoughts about having this performance in his home city of San Marcos. “It’s a good feeling man. Being home surrounded by my family and my good teammates, I’m just happy everyone contributed and got the win.  

 The 2-0 Bobcats will continue their season with a road trip to Fort Worth to take on the TCU Horned Frogs on Tuesday November 12th at 7pm on ESPN+.
