SAN MARCOS, Texas – The San Marcos Rattlers boys’ basketball team pulled away in the second half to take down the undefeated Cornerstone Christian Warriors, 65-55. Senior guard Donovan Riddick led the Rattlers with a scoring of 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Senior guard Cash Good matched Riddick’s 22 points, also bringing down six rebounds and dishing out five assists.
Rattler’s head coach Dan Miller spoke about San Marcos’ ability to bring intensity on the court as of recently.
“I think that was the number one key to the game, was being physical against a team that is physical in Cornerstone Christian,” said Miller. “We have been bringing our physicality up the past five games after the Piper win.”
Miller spoke about how the team relies on their upperclassmen leaders.

“Cash Good, Donovan Riddick and Josiah Hollmon those are our three best players, we don’t run from that,” said Miller. “We know that everybody is an important player but just as far as how they can impact the game with the ball, [and] defensively.”
Miller also spoke about the team’s preparation for their upcoming rivalry game against Hays High School on Nov. 26 at 2:00 p.m.
“Hays is a good team, we will be watching a lot of films and studying them tonight. We will put a game plan together but in basketball any team is different every night,” Miller said. “We have to bring our togetherness and physicality and find a way on the road.”
Both teams started hot with each hitting multiple three-point jumpers at the start of the first quarter. At the end of the first quarter, the Rattlers led 20-14 after a 7-0 run.
Following the high scoring first quarter, the defenses on both sides started to step up. With the Rattlers trailing by a point in the final minutes of the first half senior guard Josiah Hollmon scored a layup to beat the buzzer, giving the Rattlers a 33-32 lead going into the break.
The Rattlers began the second half on an 11-5 run extending their lead to seven points. San Marcos built themselves a comfortable double digit lead midway through the third and ended with a nine-point lead at the end of the third quarter. The Rattlers took control of the game in the fourth quarter and maintained a double-digit lead. San Marcos closed out the Warriors with a final score of 65-55.
