SAN MARCOS, Texas – The San Marcos High School Lady Rattlers blew out the

Johnson Jaguars at home with a final score of 62-33.

It was an electric start to the game, as the Rattlers won the tip off and got the ball to the corner for an open three. The jaguars responded beyond the arch immediately during the next play. The first quarter seemed like an even matchup despite the low scoring, ending the quarter 9-7.

The second quarter was the most intense quarter of the game. Tensions grew very high between San Marcos and Johnson. Bodies were on the floor, words were exchanged, and fouls were called. Both of the teams were in the bonus by the four minute mark. A Johnson fan was removed from the gymnasium for heckleing the San Marcos players and coaches.

Head coach Cooper Haralson shared his thoughts on the mental pressure put on his players during these heated moments, “Our girls have been through so much adversity, I got to coach them in the showcase this summer, got to play in a couple tournaments before the season started; we have been through a lot of games” Haralson said. “ I challenge them to maintain their focus on the goal- which is to go out there and compete. – In that moment that is what I told them.” The second quarter ended with a score of 19-14

The game consisted of a ton of turnovers by the Jaguars. The Rattlers defensive dominance is what led them to such a large victory. That started to show during the third quarter. The Jags were not able to hold onto the ball and resulted in multiple fast breaks and successful plays by the Rattlers.

San Marcos outscored Johnson 8-27, closing  the third quarter out 46-26.

That momentum carried over for the rest of the game. San Marcos Rattlers star player and team captain Ezra Tobias heated up outside the perimeter and went 4-7. Johnson lost their focus and was unable to find any lanes or open shots.

The San Marcos Lady Rattlers are now on a seven game win streak and are going into conference play. They will play again at home on January 3rd  at 7pm against East Central Hornets.
