Turner achieves first career double-double as Texas State Men’s basketball defeats ULM (2/19/2025)

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State forward Christian Turner recorded his first career double double with 15 points and 10 rebounds to help the Texas State Bobcats defeat ULM 80-63 on Feb. 19 inside Strahan Arena. 

For the ULM Warhawks senior Coltie Young finished as the top scorer with 18 points, also recording two blocks on the night. Second leading scorer for the Warhawks was senior Tyreese Watson with 12. 

 Texas State got off to a hot start, opening the game on a 13-0 scoring run. The ULM Warhawks then answered with an 11-2 run of their own, spanning over five minutes to cut the deficit to 20-15 with 7:59 remaining in the first half of play.  

At the end of the first half, the Bobcats were able to pull away from the Warhawks. Texas State built a 40-25 lead going into the halftime break. 

Opening the second half, the Bobcats were able to quickly extend their lead to over 20-points. With 13:20 remaining in the ball game, Texas State held a 54-29 lead over ULM. 

The Warhawks were not however, down and out. The team rallied back into the game, even slashing the lead in half. With 2:30 left to be played, ULM now trailed by 11 points (71-60) with momentum on their side. The Bobcats were able to seize back momentum and close out the ULM Warhawks 80-63. 

Overall as a team, the Texas State Bobcats had 47 rebounds with 22 of those coming on the offensive glass. The maroon and gold also attempted 30 three-pointers, the most from long distance since also taking 30 against UT Arlington on Feb. 12. 2015. 

Senior Joshua O’Garro, scored seven of the final nine points for Texas State down the stretch. He finished the night with a total of 11 points. The final points of the game were courtesy of a dunk by Jaylen Jones with 36 seconds left to play. 

“I’m going to miss them all [seniors], I appreciate their contributions to our program and everything that they’ve done”. “It’s a chapter in your life, what I hope that they’ve done is pave the way for the next family of Bobcats”. 

It was a dominating performance for the Bobcats, who led the entire game to begin a four-game home stretch to finish out the regular season. 

“Winning is hard, but it gets easier when you’re not trying to do it alone,” head coach Terrance Johnson said. “I hope that we can pack this place out and have electric energy like we typically do, and I hope that there’s a true home court advantage.” 

With the victory, Texas State gets back to 0.500 with a 14-14 overall record. The ULM Warhawks fall to 7-21 on the season. 

Next for the Bobcats is a home game against South Alabama, the Sun Belt Conference leaders, on Saturday at 4:30 pm.
