There’s a high likelihood you are experiencing some severe FOMO right now as Coachella season has now commenced. Coachella, officially known as Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, is one of the most iconic and influential music festivals in the world. Held annually in Indio, California, the festival began in 1999 and has transpired into a cultural phenomenon, drawing hundreds of thousands of attendees all across the globe. The foundation of the festival is simple yet crucial: bring together a diverse lineup of musicians across genres, from rock and indie to hip-hop and electronic paired with art installations and immersive experiences. Coachella’s success can be attributed to its ability to blend music, fashion, and art into a unique event that resonates with younger audiences. Its popularity continues to soar each year, fueled by viral social media moments, celebrity cameos, and the festival’s reputation as a trendsetting hub in both music and pop culture.

With headliners for this year being iconic figures such as Lady Gaga, Charli XCX, Missy Elliot, Jimmy Eat World, and plenty of others, Coachella is sure to remain the “it” festival. At its core, Coachella is meant to bring communities together through music and art. The festival’s 2025 EDM lineup promises an unforgettable experience for festival goers, blending iconic acts with fresh talent across its stages. Dance music has experienced a significant resurgence in the past year, and Coachella is making sure it keeps that sentiment alive. With acts such as Zedd, Above & Beyond, and Kraftwerk gracing the lineup, Coachella’s commitment to showcasing both established and emerging artists has solidified its reputation as a destination for dance music fans.

When the lineup was released, I was both elated and insanely jealous to see most of my favorite EDM artists performing at the legendary festival. Because I’m familiar with a majority of these artists, I know that this year will be absolutely electric. Beginning on Friday, The Prodigy will deliver their high-energy performance to the stage, Sara Landry will stun with her unique electronic style, all while A.G. Cook adds to the day’s vibrant lineup. On Saturday, Above & Beyond will bring their signature trance melodies, Alok will perform a blend of electronic music with traditional Brazilian indigenous songs, and many other artists that deserve the recognition. Topping off the incredible weekend will follow Zedd headlining his chart-topping hits, Kraftwerk’s pioneering electronic experience, and a personal favorite, Polo & Pan will be rounding out Sunday’s performances.
Additionally, the Quasar Stage returns with extended DJ sets from RÜFÜS DU SOL, Alesso x Gorgon City and more. In 2024, the festival introduced the Quasar stage, designed specifically for DJ sets and immersive visual experiences. The addition of this dedicated stage recognizes the growing popularity of the genre and allows the EDM community to thrive.
Dance music is essential to major festivals like Coachella because it embodies energy, inclusivity, and innovation, core elements of the modern festival experience. Its global appeal transcends language and genre barriers, uniting diverse crowds through rhythm and movement. With its captivating visuals and pulsating beats, dance music transforms festival grounds into euphoric, communal spaces. Coachella’s continued emphasis on EDM, from legendary acts to rising stars, reflects its key values. As dance music evolves, it will remain a vital force that keeps festivals fun, inclusive, and relatable- proving it absolutely deserves the spotlight.
