SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State Bobcats marched into their fifth-straight win this season against the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs at Strahan Arena Monday evening, where the game resulted in an absolute blowout of a score at 93-41.

The game started to the Bobcats’ advantage as the Bulldogs struggled with pacing and turning over the ball, lending the Bobcats five steals within the first four minutes and a total of eight steals and 23 rebounds for the Bobcats in the first half alone.

The first half was marked by the Bobcats running on high energy, but the energy would only amp up after the first half. Using the steals to their advantage, Bobcat senior guard Jalen Bolden along with his teammates had a layup frenzy early into the game that landed the team points in the paint right from the jump.

Texas State beats Texas Lutheran to continue their five-game win streak.

By the end of the night Bolden took the spotlight, leading his team with 24 points, and forward DJ Hall with 19 points. Bolden also totaled eight rebounds, five of them defensive.

By the end of the first half, the Bobcats were up by 24 points at 51-27, with no point of return in sight for the Bulldogs.

The Bobcats totaled 17 fouls drawn, challenging the Bulldogs and making up for some slight offense difficulties with missed threes.

The second half of the game was the point of no return for the Bulldogs, with the Bobcats having their best scoring run of 15 points early in the half and the biggest lead of 54 points in the last minute of the game.

Bobcat Coach Terrence Johnson shared his thoughts on his team’s performance and how it will prepare them for conference play.

“…How we defend on the perimeter should be disruptive,” said Johnson. “I think that we checked that box tonight. Everything is about setting a tone and a team creating an identity. We want to be known for being a team that’s in the passing lanes, that’s aggressive, that gets out in transition, and that shares the ball. I thought we did that tonight.”

Johnson also highlighted that the team’s ability and level of play rely on the influence of Bobcat point guard Kaden Gumbs.

“It’s about leadership, and I challenge Kaden to be better at that,” said Johnson. “He’s the quarterback of our team. Putting that ownership on him- I think he did a much better job with that.”

Coming off of an ultra-successful night for the two players, Bolden and Hall shared what they were most thankful for being on the Bobcat team.

“I’m most thankful for the guys,” said Bolden. “This is the best team I’ve been on, connected wise. I really appreciate them coming behind me tonight.”

“I’m also thankful for the guys,” said Hall. “Being the youngest on the team, I got a lot of leaders, big brothers that I don’t have back home. Hearing their stories and everything they did freshman year, helps me take what they did wrong and build off of that.”

The Bobcats will return to Strahan Arena on Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m. to take on Southern University.
