SAN MARCOS, Texas- The Texas State Women’s Basketball defeated Prairie View Jaguars 93 to 52 in Strahan Arena this past Sunday, giving San Marcos their first win at home this season.
The Bobcats started the game up 6 to 0, causing the Jaguars to call a timeout early with 8:21 left in the first.
The first quarter was dominated by Kyra Anderson, she finished the first quarter with 15 points.
In the second quarter Saniya Burks started heating up, scoring back-to-back 3’s, then a trip to the free throw line.
She then went on to hit three more from beyond the arc giving her 26 points at halftime. The score was 53 to 26 with the Bobcats on top.
After the halftime break, the Jaguars sent the double team to Saniya Burks, she immediately found the open woman on the cut, giving San Marcos an easy layup.
In the third more of the same for San Marcos, as McBride, Burks, and Parr all hit the free throw line and convert.
Myri Walker then got herself involved in the offense, as she scores two, then converts an and 1.
She then got herself to the line yet again with 1:18 seconds left in the game.
Final score in San Marcos is 93 to 52.
Coach Antoine when asked about the pressure Saniya Burks was faced after halftime, she said “We always know that Saniya is going to receive the best defensive effort you have, she’s seen double and triple team since high school, she’s a really savy young women”.
Texas State Women’s Basketball will return to Strahan Arena next Wednesday and will be playing UNT Dallas.
