SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men’s basketball team picked up their first Sun Belt Conference loss of the season against the Arkansas State Red Wolves 89-70, while also losing their first game at Strahan Arena this season.
The Bobcats jumped out to an early lead that quickly went in the way of the Red Wolves who dominated the rest of the game. Arkansas State was light’s out from the paint, to beyond the arc. Shooting 56.4% from the field and 54.5% from three. Red Wolves Guard Christian Harmon led the night in scoring with 21 points, going 5-7 on three pointers. The Red Wolves bench contributed massively to the win scoring 44 of their 89 points.
Texas State finished the night shooting 41.9% from the field, and 27.3% from three. The Bobcats would force 19 turnovers from the Red Wolves defensively but only were able to score nine points off those turnovers. Forward DJ Hall led the team in scoring with 15 points going 7-16 from the field, adding 7 rebounds which led the team. Guard Kaden Gumbs contributed 12 points and a team leading six assists.

The relentless pressure on defense and suburb shooting from the Red Wolves gave them the edge over the Bobcats. After the game, Head Coach Terrence Johnson discussed what allowed Arkansas State to shoot and play so well defensively.
“When you allow them to be tough, you give them confidence. We never met force with force and gave them confidence to shoot so well from three, and when you combine those now there’s a storm.”
The Bobcats will continue Sun Belt Conference play on Saturday against the South Alabama Jaguars at Strahan Arena.
