SAN MARCOS — A candidate forum was held in Hays County ahead of the March primary election, giving voters an opportunity to hear from candidates running for federal, state and local offices.
The forum aimed to inform voters about the candidates who will appear on the primary ballot. The event included judicial positions and county-level offices that directly affect residents in San Marcos and surrounding areas.
Local races represented at the forum included the 428th Judicial District, County Court at Law No. 2 and the Hays County criminal district attorney race. These positions oversee court proceedings, prosecutions and other legal matters within the county.
County offices such as county clerk and county commissioner also were discussed. These positions manage budgets, public records and local government services for Hays County residents.
State-level races included Texas Senate District 21 and lieutenant governor. Candidates for U.S. Congress also addressed voters during the event.
While many candidates attended in person, others participated through video messages, and some did not attend. Organizers said the forum was intended to provide voters with an opportunity to hear directly from those running for office.
Throughout late February, several candidates also spoke to members of the Texas State University community to engage with voters. Among them were Jasmine Crockett and James Talarico.
The March primary election will determine which candidates advance to the general election in 2026. Events like this aim to increase voter awareness by providing information about the choices available on the ballot. For more information, visit the Hays County website.
