SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State women’s basketball is hiring Chris Kielsmeier as its new head coach.

The Lady Bobcats finished the season a disappointing 11-19 under long-time head coach Zenarae Antoine. Coach Antoine stepped down as head coach after 15 seasons and holds the school’s all-time win total at 225. She also brought the university a 2023 Sun Belt regular-season title and won the Sun Belt coach of the year award.

Kielsmeier comes to San Marcos from Cleveland State University, where he’s been coaching since 2018. Kielsmeier led the Lady Vikings to a 26-10 record last season and an overall record of 178-80. The Vikings made the Great 8 of the women’s NIT last season. In 2023, Kielsmeier led the Vikings to an NCAA tournament and their first Horizon League championship in school history.

Kielsmeier has made previous stops at Division II Wayne State College and Division III Howard Payne University before making the jump to Division I.

Texas State will be seeking its first NCAA tournament appearance since 2003 under Kielsmeier, as the Bobcats will head into their first season in the brand-new Pac-12.
