High fashion, runway lights and a vibrant wave of pink filled the scene on Oct. 12 for the annual KTSW 89.9 All Pink Fashion Show. This event, hosted by Assistant Promotions Director for KTSW, Reagan Whitenack, was held at Wake the Dead Coffee House.

This event partnered with LEWK Magazine, DJ R3DACT3D from KTSW, Pink Warrior Advocates and many other vendors who wanted to support.

Before the runway began, Whitenack gave a heartwarming speech about the importance of the show, the meaning of breast cancer awareness and the importance of community. Male and female models then walked the runway dressed in pink from head to toe.

“It’s all about coming together as a community and celebrating each other and supporting breast cancer awareness month,” Whitenack said.

That same momentum and support carried into the next morning when the Texas State Sirens organization hosted a campus bake sale.

The Texas State Sirens filled the campus with their shouting and promotion of their bake sale, selling bakery items from $1 to $2 in support to raise funds for Central Texas women affected by breast cancer.

All profits from the bake sale were donated to the Pink Warrior Advocates for women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and dispersed into different categories, ranging from rent assistance, groceries, surgeries and recovery.

Outside of the Texas State Sirens promoting breast cancer awareness, they like to focus on contributing to the community.

To the Sirens, when it comes to community, this organization does it all: social activities, events, community outreach, volunteer work and dedication to creating a safe space for women all around campus.

Aria Zaharis, officer of community outreach for the Texas State Sirens, is in her third year of this organization and second year as an officer.

Zaharis said she joined when she was just a freshman and that she has met so many amazing women throughout her time.

These organizations are just a fraction of what Texas State has done to promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month, including intramurals, the Boko Glow Run event, pop-up events on The Quad and many other organizations rallying against cancer.

Texas State really knows how to show their pink representation!
