Busy, busy fun week! No time to loose! Let’s get straight to our daily breakdown:
On Monday, our hosts Halie and Charlie were joined in the studio by Alex Vogt and Colin Bromley from The Bike Cave! The Bike Cave is a university sponsored bike shop on campus. Alex and Colin talked about how they provide the tools and expertise to help YOU fix your bike; it’s more than just dropping off your bike and taking off. If you ever visit The Bike Cave, be prepared to get a little dirty learning how to fix your bike! They also talked about their personal love of biking and other cool things The Bike Cave offers such as Re-Build A Bike and Flow Riders. Want to check out The Bike Cave? Start by clicking on this lovely link to find all the information you’ll need on their website! Of course, we gave away some tickets to ALT Universe Music Festival! Don’t you love us?
On Tuesday, Anyssa and Harrison were joined by Foreign Mothers, an all-girl punk band from Austin! They talked about their beginning, their influences, and the meaning behind some of their songs which we played from their latest album. They also talked guilty pleasures and tour accidents! What? Yes, tour accidents! The fun didn’t end there; later in the show, Greg Weatherford from Born 2 Hoop stopped by to hang out and tell us about the 3-on-3 basketball tournament they’ve put together! He talked about how they’re working to make this an annual San Marcos community event, which is just what it’s for: to bring the community together! It’s going on Saturday, October 27 at Jowers starting at 9:00 AM. They’ll also be a 3-point shoot out and dunk contest! Want to register? Check out their website!
The Dead Exs stopped by on Wednesday, all the way from New York City, to hang out with our girls Michelle and Melissa in the studio. They talked about wanting to be a 2 piece band, their new album, and about their first time in Texas as The Dead Exs. They also talked about their producing experience and the many incredible musicians they’ve had the opportunity to work with, such as Robert Plant! They both expressed their opinions and love for music! Our girls also gave away some tickets to ALT Universe Music Festival!
We had another lucky winner on Thursday! Stephanie and Garrett, once again, made it a little challenging by coming up with a trivia question. The question this week was: On what NBC late night show did Ghostland Observatory (one of the bands playing at ALT Universe Music Festival) make their national television debut? We had callers call in saying, Jay Leno, Jimmy Fallon, SNL, but the right answer was Late Night with Conan O’Brien! See, Late Night with Conan O’Brien doesn’t air anymore, but it was back in 2006 when Ghostland Observatory made their television debut. Not too hard right?
Tune in today to try your chances at winning some tickets to ALT Universe Music Festival! You can also catch an interview with Wild Club (conducted by Dany Recio), who are playing a show in Austin on Saturday, and guess what? We’ll be giving away some tickets to that show as well! KTSW always has you covered!
College Radio Day is happening next week on Tuesday! We have an awesome week planned out! We’ll have in-studio sessions from Education, Deervibes, and more! We’ll also give away our last pair of tickets for ALT Universe Fest, and we’ll start giving out tickets to Voodoo Fest going on in New Orleans! Catch you guys next week!
