Newscast: Engineering and Science Building
Texas State University is waiting for a decision by the Texas Legislature concerning funding for the proposed Engineering and Science Building. The University has submitted a funding request for $83 million dollars and expects a decision sometime in May. The building is being planned in response to the overwhelming number of applications to the new Engineering Program, which is already outgrowing its space in the Mitte Building. University Vice President, Nancy Nusbaum, says that unless the Engineering Program gets more space, they will have to begin turning students away.
“The new building is desperately needed or else we are going to have to curtail our enrollment there.”
– Nancy Nusbaum
The new building would also bring additional research dollars to the University, as Texas State is now considered an emerging research institution. If funded, demolition of the buildings on the proposed site would begin following the spring 2014 semester.
