Wisdom of West, Texas
Since Sept. 6, Red Cross has been assisting with property clean up, demolition of damaged structures and replacement of household appliances for those who were affected by the West, Texas explosion last April. In addition, crisis counseling is being implemented to aid post-traumatic stress and promote long term health. Bristel Bowen, Regional Director of Communication for the American Red Cross of Central Texas, talks about a program that the Red Cross is funding for up to three years.
“One of the programs that we are really excited about is called “Wisdom of West” Basically, we are going to train Red Cross volunteers to sit down and work with a lot of the senior population in West who were affected by the explosion and record their life story. A lot of the people who have lived in West have lived there their entire lives.”
We want to be able to celebrate the people there and also offer them opportunities to come together as they move towards a brighter future while talking about the past.
– Bristel Bowen
Further announcements will be made about “Wisdom of West” and more information will be found at redcross.org. Volunteers are something that the Red Cross depends on.
