On September 15th, Texas State Representative Jason Isaac held the annual Barbecue round-up for House District 45. The event was a fundraising campaign for Jason Isaac and aimed to bring elected officials together. This was the third year Isaac held the event and his predecessor hosted it multiple years prior to that. Before enjoying barbecue and blackberry cobbler, Isaac discussed what he’s been doing since the 83rd legislative session ended.

As someone who put himself through college, Isaac is very passionate about helping college students as much as he can. One thing that didn’t pass was a textbook tax bill authored by Representative Isaac. The house bill would eliminate taxes on textbooks to make them more affordable for students. Although it didn’t pass, Isaac hasn’t given up on the idea
Besides continuing to pass legislation for college students, Isaac also has a lot of plans to help veterans gain employment. Right now unemployment levels are higher among veterans than the general population. Next legislative session, Isaac will bring the idea of “Troops to Teach” to the table. The program is already in affect in other states across the country. Isaac discusses what the program would entail…
“We can help our veterans [and] give them credit for their service…”
