Cold Case Brought To An End Megan Carthel
The first person to receive the death sentence in Hays County in almost 20 years is awaiting execution. Former Southwest Texas State football player, Willie Roy Jenkins, was convicted of capital murder this June for the 1975 death of then 20 year old Sheryl Ann Norris. Norris was a secretary at the Texas Crime Prevention Institute at the University.
San Marcos Police Chief, Howard Williams, says DNA from a semen sample linked Jenkins to the crime. Williams says it was amazing to watch officials put together a 35 year old case.
“There was this sense of satisfaction that we got the guy. We got him.”
– Chief Howard Williams
Williams says Jenkins is being held in the Huntsville Prison Unit and is a suspect in other cold case murders. Jenkins was already serving a life sentence in California for rape.
