How To Dress Well is not a fashion blog or the title of the latest chick-flick, but the music project of Tom Krell, a talented Brooklyn-native musician whose voice and lyrics set him apart from everyone else. With a mix of electronic, funk, pop and R&B, his vocals full of reverb over catchy beats will make you deeply question life or make you stand up and dance your head off.
His latest project, Total Loss, is heartbreak, loneliness and sadness all put together in a unique way. Unlike his debut album Love Remains, Total Loss explores the sad side of life based on the deaths and losses Krell has personally gone through in his life. Whether or not his PhD plays a key role in his music, one thing is true- How To Dress Well knows how to get you thinking and dancing at the same time.
Total Loss was released in 2012 through Acephale Records and Weird World Records. It placed 33rd on Stereogum’s Top 50 albums list upon release, and was recognized as “Best New Music” by Pitchfork Media. After listening to both of his albums, it becomes clear why his music is considered unique and innovative by many media outlets and his fans around the world.
Recommendations for this album are “Say My Name or Say Whatever,” “& It Was You,” “Struggle” and “Say It Right.” Perfect for a late night drive with your windows down.
