San Marcos Police Department will be mailing tickets to motorists who illegally pass a stopped school bus beginning this month.
SMPD School Bus Enforcement
San Marcos CISD will begin to equip their school buses with cameras, not to catch what happens inside the bus but to record what’s happening on the outside. External cameras will be in use in order to video record vehicles that pass a stopped school bus that is loading and unloading children while the stop arm is in use. A trial run was done on fifteen San Marcos school buses, the results ended up in over 600 violators. Leticia Adcox, mother of a child who rides a school bus, explains her concern over the new enforcement.
“You know as a mother I’m constantly worrying about the safety of my children and I think its completely fair to issue tickets to those careless drivers who choose to put the safety of our children in jeopardy.”
– Leticia Adcox
The Automated School Bus Stop Arm Enforcement Program is said to go into effect on February 17th, and violators will be receiving a $300 ticket in the mail.
