Dentistry from the Heart

The San Marcos Gentle Dental hosted the first annual Dentistry from the Heart-For the love of Chance this past Valentines’ Day.

Doctor Donnelly along with other dentists of the San Marcos Gentle Dental provided a free day of dental care to residents of San Marcos. Along with the dentists there were two hygienists and numerous volunteers, who provided either a free extraction, filling or cleaning to patients that attended the event. Lines started forming at seven in the morning and food and beverages were given to patients while they waited to get their teeth checked. Clinical administrator Margaret Benner says that this event was started by Doctor Donnelly to honor his son Chance, who inspired him to give back to the community.

“Doctor Donnelly’s son past away in 2010 and he was looking for a way to memorialize his son and keep his memory alive and he was a very giving person and his name was Chance, so Doctor Donnelly decided to kind of incorporate that into this event and just kind of do it in Chance’s memory and so that’s why we call it Dentistry from the Heart for the love of Chance so he just wanted to make sure to include him in this.”

Dentistry from the Heart is a nation-wide event as a way to give back to communities and provide aid to the growing number of Americans without health and dental insurance. Entertainment was also provided for patients who waited for over three hours for a free check-up.
