A body was found near the 800 block of Chestnut Street in San Marcos at 11:45 a.m. today after a welfare call was placed. The location was near the Eight17 Lofts construction, which is a block away from campus. The San Marcos Police Department is treating the investigation as a suspicious death. The city is asking the public to stay away from the crime scene because of the ongoing investigation.

An unmanned NASA rocket exploded just seconds after launching last night in Virginia. The explosion was due to a catastrophic failure. The rocket was carrying 5,000 pounds of cargo and experiments meant for the International Space Station. No one was killed or injured in the explosion, but debris was spread over a large area. NASA is warning the public not to touch any debris they may find because the rocket contained hazardous materials.

Early voting continues today until 7 p.m. in the LBJ Student Center. As of this morning, Texas State University College Democrats report that 719 Hays County voters have utilized the campus polling location. Early voting ends Friday and Election Day is Tuesday, November 4.

Texas State President Denise Trauth will host a Presidents Cat Chat from 3-4 p.m. Thursday, November 20. Students are invited to share their thoughts about the university with the president and the department of student affairs.

Olga Mayoral Wilson, senior lecturer in Texas State’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication, has been inducted into the Public Relations Society of America College of Fellows.Wilson’s induction took place during this year’s PRSSA International Conference in D.C. The College of Fellows is a community of more than 300 senior PRSSA members who have advanced the public relations profession and distinguished themselves through their experience and leadership in the public relations industry. PRSSA is the largest professional organization serving the U.S. public relations community. With a mission to advance the profession and the professional, PRSSA provides news and information, thought leadership, continuing education and networking opportunities.
