Caylin Mahoney is a senior setter for the Texas State Women’s Volleyball team. During the South Alabama versus Texas State Sun Belt Conference game, Mahoney came up one kill short of having a triple-double in just her second match back.

Mahoney was named the 2014 Sun Belt Conference Preseason Setter of the Year. Last year she was named the Sun Belt Conference Championship Tournament Most Outstanding Player. Mahoney played her first game of the year on Halloween, after recovering from a broken finger.

Kiersten Ehr:  In elementary school Mahoney realized she wanted to follow in her older sister Kelsey’s footsteps and become a collegiate volleyball player.
Caylin Mahoney:  In fourth grade I did YMCA just because that was one of the ages you could sign up, and I did it because my sister did, and I wanted to do everything my sister did. Basically, she was a setter too, and I said I’ll be a setter too.

KE: Before Mahoney committed herself to collegiate volleyball she played soccer for a decade.
CM: I like watching college football. I used to play soccer for 10 years and I thought that was what I was going to do with my life until I started playing volleyball and I was like, “Oh, I love this sport so much better.”

KE: Mahoney said it’s not always easy to multitask between being a full-time student and college athlete.
CM: Probably managing your time. We miss a lot of class during season and we have to make up a ton of work and missed tests on the road, that’s probably the most difficult.

KE: With Mahoney’s marketing major she hopes to work for her favorite NFL sports team in Texas.
CM: I really want to do some kind of sports or entertainment-type marketing. My dream would be to work for the Dallas Cowboys.

KE: Mahoney said she’ll miss the friendships she’s formed at Texas State as well as her love for competing.
CM: Just competing. I think that’s my most important favorite part of volleyball. Just being on a team, since they are all your friends, and we love each other so much. I’m going to miss that part the most.

KE: In Mahoney’s spare time she likes to hit the Outlet Mall and enjoy local favorites.
CM: I love watching movies and shopping. Right now, I like Lululemon, that’s my favorite right now, and Francesca’s; definitely floating the river and going to Garcia’s.

Mahoney’s looking forward to finishing her senior year on the court for Texas State in regular season and competing in the Sun Belt Conference tournament, which starts Nov. 27 in San Marcos.
