A long and winding river, an abundance of nature and numerous places to just go and hangout have made San Marcos a pretty chill place to call home for many of its residents. It has also secured a spot for San Marcos on an interesting list.

Movoto Real Estate has named San Marcos one of the ten most relaxed small cities in America. Movoto is a real estate business that connects home buyers with certified real estate agents from all over the country.

Many categories were taken into consideration when evaluating the most relaxing cities including commute time, cost of living, population density and even the number of massage businesses per capita. Texas has three cities on the list: Cedar Park, Georgetown and San Marcos.

Movoto’s content manager, Randy Nelson said that a shorter work week and lower unemployment rate played a role in San Marcos’ placement on the list.

“San Marcos actually was ranked about a third of the way down for commute time. But, it actually did really well for a low unemployment rate. It actually- number of hours worked was low.”

Nelson said the city’s low cost of living and high number of massage centers and parks were also factors.

Texas State Senior and San Marcos resident Elias Aguirre said that he’s not at all surprised San Marcos made it on the list.

“I think San Marcos is pretty relaxing. There are a lot of places to go and hangout, and just relieve some stress.”

Of the 140 cities Movoto ranked, San Marcos came in at number ten.
