The Russian – Ukrainian ceasefire agreement falters after shots continue to be fired. According to CNN, 5 more Ukrainian service members have been killed in the past 24 hours. Pro-Russian rebels seized control of most areas fought over, despite the ceasefire agreement. Ukrainian Defense spokesman reported there was at least 129 violations of the ceasefire the day after the agreement went into effect.
The United Nations is investigating a claim that ISIS is harvesting and trafficking the organs of their victims. According to the Iraqi Ambassador, many bodies have been found with openings in their backs and organs removed. According to CNN, ISIS is the wealthiest terror group on record, and they use black market oil sales, extortion and fundraising to finance their actions. According to the US treasury, ISIS generates over 1 million dollars per day.
A Travis County judge ruled the Texas ban on gay marriage is unconstitutional. According to the Austin American-Statesman, Judge Guy Herman’s ruling yesterday came from an estate fight where an Austin resident wanted to have her 8 year relationship with another woman declared a common-law marriage. Judge Herman’s ruling would only affect Travis County.
Don’t forget that today and tomorrow will be the last days to vote for next years student president, vice president, and senators for Texas State’s student government. Students can go to the Texas State website to cast their votes. Voting ends tomorrow, February 19th at 5 pm.
