Toy Guitar could be described as a mish-mosh of garage style grunge rock. The kind of sound that makes you want to get up and conquer the world. Having a down day? Hang in there, throw on some Toy Guitar and do something you’ve never done: bark at a dog, fix a toilet, learn how to fix a toilet, who cares! A diamond in the rough among an age of alternative indie rock, this band is a breath of fresh air. Influenced by 70s punk rock and some 60s surf-rock, this funky band springs from good ole San Francisco, California. Their style consists of strong base drums with a bass guitar that compliments the rhythm of the guitar.
I can’t get enough of these guys. They offer a sound that I thought was lost in the 90s. Like a big bucket of wine, they have splashed me in the face with what could be considered a vintage taste of the old days with their subtle use of surf rock woven underneath power rock reminiscent of the 80s. If you’re looking for a song to beep bop around town to, “When It Was Over” and “Is It True?” are some that will surely satisfy your craving. That said, the album should not be generalized to those two specific songs. It is collectively a great album which deserves a full listen through.
