On the morning of June 27, 2015 around 8:10a.m. a swimmer in the San Marcos River discovered a body tangled in the Texas wild rice where Texas State University Police were called to the scene for investigation.
The body was shortly identified as David Curtis McKnight, 29, who was reported missing around midnight by friends after a night of swimming in the headwaters river.
University Police dive teams had searched for McKnight overnight but were unable to locate him.

Mama K and the Shades formed in the summer of 2014 where McKnight joined the eleven part funk/ soul group.
Mama K and the Shades also played at KTSW’s MR Fest 2015 on April 25th in San Marcos, TX.
