This morning at approximately 5:20a.m. San Marcos Police Officers were called to the Walmart at 1015 SH-80 after a naked man was discovered unconscious in the store’s restroom. The man has been identified as John Charles Wilsford, (DOB 12/30/1984).

When officers arrived, Wilsford was outside Walmart fully clothed and indicated to officers that he had a bomb in his backpack. The backpack was located outside the front of the store.

Wilsford was then taken into custody, where approximately 100 people were the evacuated from the Walmart around 5:30a.m.

The Walmart was closed following Wilsford being taken into custody where the San Marcos Police Department worked closely with the Austin Police Department’s bomb squad during the incident.

Once the officers and the bomb squad determined the backpack contained no explosives, employees and customers were allowed to return to the store around 9:45a.m.

Wilsford has been charged with possession of a hoax bomb, which is a Class A misdemeanor.
