The County of Hays issued a press release earlier today where Hays County Clerk Liz Gonzalez announced that her office is now issuing marriage applications and licenses to anyone who applies, including same-sex applicants.
However, applications are still not gender neutral where Gonzales notes some applicants may prefer to wait until forms are fully updated.
“We are in contact with our vendor to see when we can get the new forms that are gender neutral,” Gonzalez said, “and we will announce when those are available.”
Additionally, the Clerk’s Office is taking contact information for interested applicants who wish to be notified when new applications and licenses are made available. Hays County will also notify the public when gender neutral applications are available.
The Clerk recommends that applicants be in the office by 4p.m. Monday,Tuesday,Thursday and Friday and no later than 5:30p.m. on Wednesdays in the San Marcos office. The Kyle office closes at 4:30 p.m. every day of the week.
Officials say the entire process should take no more than 15 minutes if applicants have all the proper information.
