California native Nyles Lannon, more commonly known as “n. Lannon,” composes an album full of mellow vibes and abstract electronic rhythms. Falling Inside, Lannon’s third full length album will transport you to the bliss cosmos or make you feel like you’re in a Wes Anderson film. The use of various instruments such as the acoustic guitar, a synthesizer, violin, piano and drums, produces a full and vibrant sound. Lannon uses sampling techniques in his song “Endless Night”, and in turn gives his sound a slight Postal Service feel. Lannon’s earlier 2004 album Chemical Friends presents more acoustic guitar use and far less synthesizer. Lannon does not utilize as many instruments in Chemical Friends as he has in Falling Inside. Falling Inside allows n. Lannon to truly show his talent on any instrument he may pick up. While acoustic guitar is Lannon’s primary focus, synthesizer use is much more prominent in his third release. His soft voice and stellar use of synthesizer and dreamy beats create the perfect “Folktronica” sound.
Lannon is signed to Badman Recording Co. who houses popular bands such as Starf*cker and My Morning Jacket. Lannon’s thoughtful and sweet sounding lyrics are sure to tug at your heart strings, whether they remind you of a longtime lover or a sad goodbye. This album is best listened to when road tripping to the mountains or when cloud watching in that favorite park of yours. Lannon’s soft acoustic guitar strums and ear pleasing harmonies in his songs “Submarine” and “Captain” constructs an atmosphere of blissful relaxation. N. Lannon is currently touring for Falling Inside in cities around California, such as San Francisco and San Diego. Three thumbs up goes to Lannon and his unintentional way of making me feel like I’m on a space ship to Venus.
Julianna Reel Other Side Drive I’d like to talk about something that hits close to home for me- that is long distance relationships. Sure, some of us may have never experienced having someone close to us move away, yet, but at some point in time, I think we all experience this at least once in our life.
