The Bird and the Bee are a musical duo from Los Angeles, California. The band is composed of Inara George (AKA The Bird) and Greg Kurstin (AKA The Bee). The duo started making sounds together back in 2006 and haven’t stopped since. Their sound can be described as psychedelic pop, synthpop, and shoegaze. Recreational Love is their 4th studio album, which released earlier this month.
The album is an absolute delight. It sounds like a mixture of new age disco and 80’s pop. It also sounds like it should come from a French band. I really enjoy the 6th track, “Jenny”. Listening to it takes me back to the eighties. It’s one of those tracks that you catch yourself listening to in a gay club. It also gets stuck in your head. The song is just a mixture of silly lyrics that happen to catch my eye.
Another track that’s groovy to listen to is the lead off track, “Young and Dumb”. It’s a song about young love and how people were in the teenage years. It’s a hip tune to get the party started off since it’s the first track of the album. With it’s nostalgic lyrics and upbeat sound, it’s sets the tone for the whole album. The rest of the songs are reminiscent of early high school love. Most of the songs put me in a dream-like state. I highly recommend this album for one who is into easy listening.
