The Texas State University Board of Regents has authorized Texas State University to expand and renovate Strahan Coliseum, which will become part of the University Event Center.
The expansion would add 2,300 seats to the Coliseum by building out the eastern side of the arena. The new design also includes an additional 81,000 square feet which will be used to make the University Event Center a multi-use facility.
The project will expand the athletic locker rooms, offices and support spaces for the men’s and women’s basketball teams, women’s volleyball, visiting teams and game officials.
Included in the expansion is a new main entrance, pedestrian plaza, elevator, restrooms and concessions to improve the overall experience for guests.
Due to the growing student population of Texas State, there is a “pressing need” to expand the University Event Center to accommodate for seating and space in Strahan Coliseum for special events such as commencement and convocation. The total cost for the revisions and expansion is approximately $54 million.
The project is expected to begin in early 2016 and end in early 2019.
