The LBJ Student Center is looking forward to renovation. According to Director of the LBJ Student Center, Jack Rahman, there are basics necessities such as water, electrical and heating systems that need to be refreshed as well as expanding the Ballroom, meeting rooms, and food services.
“When you are growing like Texas State has grown, you are gonna get at different stages in their growth, you need to build more classrooms, more resident halls and a new student center and that is where we are now,” Rahman said.
During the student elections, student will be able to vote if they will like to fund the expansion of the LBJ Student Center by agreeing to an increase on the student fees to be able to fund the project.
“We need to begin conversations with students, to share the information with them, if we build this, this it what it will cost and this it what it will cost students and let them decide if this is the direction we want to go for the future,” said Rahman
According to Jack Rahman the recommended benchmark number for students centers across the country is 8 square feet per student. Currently, Texas State University is below 6 square feet per student, meaning there is a gap that needs to be filled in order to meet the recommended standard.
The LBJ Student Center is always looking for ways to provide the students with a safe and welcoming environment. There are a number of initiatives to better serve students and the expansion will be set as a new goal.
