A coaching change on the defensive side of the ball was called for after allowing 50 plus points scoring in two consecutive games at the beginning of the season. Brad Franchione took to reigns of the defense as interim defensive coordinator. In the first game of having a new defensive coordinator The Bobcat defense had an improvement, albeit a slight one, allowed 49 points against the Ragin’ Cajun offense. Head Coach Dennis Franchione had this to say on the teams loss this last Saturday.
“There’s limitations to what you can do but from discipline, accountability and eliminating some of the grey in the defense and making some changes with personal and putting people in different spots, we’ve worked hard at trying to orchestrate change.”
Change definitely sounds nice, but for the Bobcats right now it’s ‘put up or shut up’ time. Whether the hill country folk want to face this or not, the Bobcats are a few simple losses away from this season being a throw-away. Head Coach Dennis Franchione had this to say about his new defensive coordinator.
“I think Brad will be a little more ‘We’re gonna do it this way, we’re going to line right. We’re going to know our assignments better, we’re going to understand why we’re doing what we’re doing better. I think all his approaches with that and his energy and everything has been good for us.”
On the heels of another bye week, the Bobcats have another two weeks of practice before opening up Sun Belt Conference play again against South Alabama. Here’s to hoping our defense improves dramatically in time for that showdown. For KTSW Sports this is Mason Weir.
