Gwilym Gold’s newest album A Paradise belongs exactly where the title implies—a beach scene with waves kissing the shore, the sun beating down, and a light breeze making the plan trees sway. The extremely slow electronically driven tracks lend to relaxation and some solid napping. He has a very impressive vocal range, too, seamlessly flowing from high pitched melodies to lower, more spoken lyrics. Honestly, I wasn’t a huge fan of the album on first listen. I didn’t find myself liking the slowness of it and I wasn’t a fan of how one-note it felt. When I sat down again, later that night, I found myself really enjoying it. Gwilym Gold’s voice totally set the mood as I was getting ready to go to bed and I was loving it. “Breathless” was the first song on the album that really caught my attention—the intro is different than the rest of the album and I liked the way he uses it throughout the song. I also really enjoyed “I Know, I Know”. For me, it was the song that had the most storyline and emotion behind it. He also allowed his voice to stand out from the track so much more on this piece than the others and it was really raw and breath taking. Overall, the album has a very sensual slow vibe and is truly a delight for one’s ears. I would definitely recommend giving it a night time listen, especially when you’re in “the feels.”
