Boredom: the state of being weary and restless through lack of interest.

If we are doing the exact thing for too long, we become bored. The solution is too easy; we need to explore. Even if it means walking down the road to get some fresh air, we have to move around and partake in an activity. Austin has an endless list of places to visit, food to eat and just about anything else you can think of.

There are many things you are entitled to do as a Texas State student such as floating the San Marcos river and touring the Square. We have bragging rights on being an university with a river flowing through it, so it’s only right if you experience it at least once. There are plenty of weekends with perfect weather to go tubing in, so grab your friends and go! Secondly, the Square has a variety of restaurants/bars, places to shop, tattoo shops and much more. On any given day, it is cool to walk down to the shops and take a look at everything it has to offer.

My first year in San Marcos was full of adventures and it was totally worth the while. I went against my fears of huge bodies of water and floated down the river, twice! A couple of friends and I took advantage of the great weather we get on the weekends and went tubing. Tubing is an inexpensive activity that you can enjoy with a group of people or even just by yourself. You can bring drinks/food for picnics, music to listen to while going down the river, and there is even kayaking!

I have done my fair share of strolling around in the Square since I’ve became a Bobcat. My favorite places to visit are the tattoo shops and the amazing thrift stores. One of the visits that come to mind is when I went to a tattoo shop for the Friday the 13th deal. I got ear and nose piercings for super cheap! The shops are always really packed with Texas State students, so it’s cool to meet other people with the same interests as you. Each of the shops in the Square have a unique identity and have cool vibes to match it. It is really popular among the students and residents of San Marcos, so go and see for yourself.

If you ever catch yourself about to be bored, get out of your dorm room or apartment and do some exploring around our town. Do not let your years here as a Texas State student go to waste by not experiencing everything that comes with it. The river, the Square and the surrounding cities have fun written all over it. Stop procrastinating over everything and try enjoy the little activities that make up life. San Marcos has so much to offer, so all you have to do is go out and take it.
