The rich aroma of coffee welcomes customers through the front doors before they sink their teeth into a stack of soft pancakes, or a juicy cheeseburger. The mouthwatering food, relaxed atmosphere and radiant wait staff keep customers coming back for more. People from all backgrounds and walks of life find themselves sitting down at the diner of this cultural hearth. Café on the Square is a stop that cannot be missed on one’s quest to achieve the maximum San Marcos experience.
Common Questions about Café on the Square
Where is it located?
Located on the Square of San Marcos, Café on the Square is a difficult place to miss. Parking may be a problem because the Square is a crowded place, and Café on the Square is a large reason why.
What does it serve?
Café on the Square serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, so they obviously have a wide variety of food to choose from. As for my fellow caffeine addicts, don’t worry, coffee is served all day. Here are some my recommendations:

Breakfast – (served all day long) – You cannot go wrong with a stack of pancakes with bacon and eggs on the side. Alex the cook knows how to cook them up the way mama made them back home. My personal breakfast favorite is the Breakfast Burrito: tasty and you can save half of the burrito for later.
Lunch – My go to choice at lunch is a juicy cheeseburger with an ice cold lemonade. The burger is grilled slowly, which allows the flavor of the spices and grease to seep through the patty, and the vegetables on the burgers are fresh and flavorful. There is a veggie burger as well. This burger is as healthy as it is tasty, which is a lot.

Dinner – I recommend trying out one of the Mexican or Seafood plates. The Mexican plates are well described as Tex-Mex, which emphasizes the culture of San Marcos. The chimichanga or nacho plate are both great picks. If you want Mexican food go on a Tuesday for Taco Tuesday. For seafood, the fried catfish is a local fish delicacy. The fish is fried just enough to be lip smacking worthy. If you want a more sophisticated seafood plate, the Blackened Salmon is seared just right and makes for an amazing meal.
Café on the Square serves a delicious assortment of food. These are only some of my own recommendations, however, I highly encourage anybody to go make their own. This café holds a soft spot in the hearts of each returner who goes here. The food is good and represents the cultures of people who live in the area. The maximum San Marcos experience cannot be achieved without stopping at Café on the Square.
