Can you think of a better way to spend one of the most exciting celebrations this summer other than being outdoors with friends, grilling tasty food? Hosting a barbecue by the pool will allow you and your guests to enjoy the outdoors without having to host a bunch of people in your personal space indoors. Make it BYOB for those who are on a budget, while providing your friends with food like burgers, chips and other condiments.
- Start the holiday festivities by hanging out by the pool and preparing the grill for burgers, barbecue, etc.
- After everyone has finished eating and swimming you can entertain your friends with festive games:
Cornhole – although this is a classic outdoor party game, everybody will be certain to have fun.
Piñata – be sure to fill it with red, white and blue candy and go for it!
Chicken Fight – because why not? With everyone already by the pool, it will be a fun way to get the entire group interacting.
- Around 6 p.m., head down to SummerFest. This is a free event hosted by San Marcos every Fourth of July at the San Marcos Plaza Park. Play some fun glow in the dark games while waiting for fireworks.
Glow-in-the-dark ring toss – buy some glow necklaces and something to stick in the ground to toss the ring around.
Glow-in-the-dark bowling – put some glow sticks in water bottles as the pins and your ready to go.
- End the day by enjoying a firework show.
Whatever your festive plans may be, remember the reason for the holiday and that “freedom is never given, it is won.” – A. Phillip Randolph
This is a great opportunity to make the most of a long summer day with your friends, and celebrate the country we are a part of.
